Kangana Ranaut Criticizes BMC's Selective Demolition Actions Following Kunal Kamra's Eknath Shinde Joke



Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has voiced her discontent over the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) recent demolition drive targeting comedian Kunal Kamra's residence. The action was reportedly in response to Kamra's satirical remarks about Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Ranaut, who faced a similar BMC demolition in 2020, highlighted a perceived inconsistency in the civic body's actions, stating, "This is legal, mine wasn't."​

In 2020, Ranaut's Mumbai office was partially demolished by the BMC, citing unauthorized structural modifications. The actress contested these claims, alleging that the demolition was a retaliatory move following her critical comments about the Maharashtra government and the Mumbai police. The Bombay High Court later deemed the BMC's action against Ranaut as an abuse of power and ordered compensation.​

The recent demolition at Kamra's residence has reignited debates about freedom of expression and the potential misuse of administrative authority. Kamra, known for his sharp political satire, had recently targeted Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his routines. Shortly thereafter, the BMC issued a notice alleging unauthorized constructions at Kamra's property, leading to the demolition.​
